Château et cité médiévale
An exceptional place where arts, sciences and heritage rub shoulders
The origins of the château date back to the 11th century. Built on the initiative of the lords of Beaugency to control access to the bridge over the Loire, the château survived the centuries without major upheaval or turmoil. Modernised into a Renaissance château by Jean Dunois and then Jeans d’Orléans-Longuveille, the building was then chosen to house a beggars’ asylum before opening its doors to the curious gaze of visitors. Today, transformed into a digital art centre, the château is adorned with thousands of pixels. Bathed in lights, reverberating with electronic music, (re)animated to the rhythm of the projectors, the digital art centre will delight young and old alike.

Night-time shows throughout the year
The soaring curtain walls hide the façades of the château from prying eyes. From the square, flanked by the abbey church to the south and the Caesar Tower to the west, it is hard to gauge the volumes of this imposing dwelling and the remarkable architecture of the courtyard. And yet, once past the stout entrance door, time seems suspended. The visitor changes century by just passing through the porch. Discover the hexagonal tower (almost impossible to perceive from the square), stroll through the arcades in the north wing, observe the details of the casements, seek shade under the two-hundred-year-old vine, and… come evening, be amazed by the illuminations that transform the Renaissance château into a vessel of light.
